I did a similar post in 2021 but I have tweaked it for 2022... Here's to an amazing New Year ahead!
Now more than ever dance teachers from all over the world need to be celebrated for all that you have done!
Raise your hand if you are ready for some good news! As we embark on a New Year ahead, we are all in search of some good news. I have created seven "Good News!" experiences I would like to share with all dance teachers and dance studio owners. It’s time to turn off the noise of what’s not right and focus on what is right.
So let's celebrate all of the good!
Good News #1: 2021 is finally behind us! Yes, it was full of up's and down's but the year ahead is filled with new possibilities, new adventure and exciting new opportunities. Think of it as a clean slate ready for you to write on. Yes, ultimately, we are in charge of our happiness and outlook on life. So, I encourage you to enjoy life, smile, laugh and take in all of the beauty around you as you get the privilege of being alive in 2022
Good New #2: You are wiser and more diverse in how you teach dance. If I had told you that one day you were going to be teaching dance via zoom or some other virtual platform you most likely would have said, not me. But here you are with a new found knowledge and expertise on how to do exactly that. Or maybe you taught classes outside or in an area other than a dance studio. Now you might me thinking, Steve I could have lived without learning all that, I get it but the good news is you did it! Life as we know has a tendency of throwing us curve balls every now and again and with this one you swung and hit the ball out of the park.
Good New #3: Your students will never forget what you have done for them during this time. After being a dance studio owner and teaching dance for 34 years there are many great memories and friendships that have developed over the years with former students. Some are professional dancers, others are lawyers, CEO’s of companies, film directors, body builders and stay at home moms. We have received many great letters about life lessons learned at their time at our studio and how grateful they are for what we have taught them. But I can tell you the students who have gone through this with you will always admire and love you for all you have done during this extraordinary time. You really do deserve a lot of credit for all you have done and continue to do!
Good News #4: People are being more helpful and appreciative. There are reports of people in general being happier with the little things in life that they use to take for granted. They are also more grateful for everything that is good in their lives. That’s their family and friends and all the activities that enhance the lives of the people in their circle. And you do that every day. I have noticed this at our dance studio with our customers. So, get ready, you are going to be on the receiving end of a lot of good and positive energy coming your way in 2022!
Good News #5: The dance teaching profession is so needed right now. As we proceed back to a normal way of life people need and want interaction with others. And what better way to do that than through dance classes. Dance teaches kids about communication, teamwork and how to express themselves. Plus, it gives the students opportunity to interact and build amazing relationships with their peers. The dance teaching profession is going to be exploding over the coming years and you will be riding that wave. You do make a difference in the world and please don’t ever forget that. Good News #6: You will have so many amazing stories to tell! This is all still very raw and real for all of us as we are not at the finish line yet. But I am sure you will have many stories to tell about when you had to (fill in the blanks for your story) during this pandemic. I recommend you start a journal if you have not yet done so and write down some of your experiences both the good and the bad. Years from now most people will have moved on from this but you will certainly have memories that will add to the amazing tapestry of your life. I know I have many to share and I look forward to a day when it will be fun to talk about.
Good News #7: You are still standing. Yes, I can’t help but hear Elton John singing that song on New Years Day… So, sing it with me will you please? “I’m Still Standing, Yeah, Yeah. Yeah!” Go ahead sing it out loud and sing it proud. Watch the video below and sing along. You were hit with a gut punch and while it certainly hurt for a while, you are here and now. Take it all in because you have not only survived but you are also ready to now thrive.
